Windy City Irish Radio - October 23, 2022

The Irish music community mourns the loss of two great musicians.  Earlier this week, while touring New Orleans, Irish American and Chicago South Sider, Marty Sammon, passed away at the young age of 45, a day after his birthday.  With grandparents on both sides hailing from Ireland, Marty embraced his Irish roots learning Irish polkas and reels on the piano but migrated towards his true love of the blues.  At an early age, Marty's parents realized his immense talent and Marty began performing for many blues greats.  In addition to releasing his own solo album recorded live at the Kingston Mines in Chicago, Marty was the keyboardist for guitar blues legend, Buddy Guy.  Marty passed away the morning after performing his last show at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans, a city he loved almost as much as Chicago.

Barry Mohan, guitarist and singer from the group, All Folk'd Up, died tragically in a an auto accident in Ireland earlier this week.  Barry was in the prime of his career and left us at a very young age of 28 years.

We feature new music from Brona McVittle, The Mary Wallops, Niamh Dunne, Character Fleadh, Dublin Irish Trio, Rufus Nightjar, Lyra, Lisa Hannigan and a new release from Murphy's Lawyer.

It's all right here on Windy City Irish Radio.  Tune in live on globalirishradio.com or tune in on 750AM WNDZ Chicago.
